Situation
Our client – the IT division of a leading Telco – is currently analyzing how application programming interfaces (API) can be leveraged to better serve internal and external clients. The API project leader asked Open Web Technology to help him:
- Understand the benefits which can be achieved using APIs
- Design a sounding API strategy
- Put in place the right project structure for a successful implementation
Approach
We started by creating a comprehensive business case, in order to assess APIs deployment cost against potential benefits:
- Easier integration of 3rd party services
- Simpler services access for internal teams
- Monetization of service exposure to external parties
Based on the findings of the business case, we designed an API strategy clearly stating priorities and defining a “go-to-market” approach. We also helped the project team choose the best implementation partner from an international selection of API specialists. Finally, we put in place an “API board” regrouping key stakeholders both from Business Units and the IT team.
The project is now on track and, thanks to the governance of the “API board”, the first APIs should be live very soon.
